Become a friend of CIUT this week!

The Fall Friends of 89.5 Membership Drive is on now.

Join the thousands of listeners who have showed their love and support by becoming members of listener-supported CIUT! A substantial portion of CIUT's operating budget comes from the folks who make contributions to the station. Friends of 89.5 receive special thank-you gifts, a quarterly newsletter, and are automatically provided a tax receipt for any contribution of $50.00 or more.

Show your support of The First Word and CIUT by making a donation. http://ciut.fm/pledge.php

The First Word will be raising funds for the station while we reminisce about losing our Where it's At producer Tracy BN to some adventure travel in Japan. Expect some emotional outbursts and celebratory beats to see her off. We'll miss you Tracy.

On a side-note, stories have surfaced of a futuristic radio robot named the Tracinator 2000 who is working at a radio station in the Eastern Bloc. Last week, we sent our TFW correspondents to Prague to investigate and to woo this robot vixen to coming to Canada and CIUT. This Sunday our team file their reports live from abroad, and we'll find out if the super-charged radio rockstar Tracinator 2000 will become the newest member of the TFW team. Expect the unexpected.

November 5 - Laugh Lab - Winston Spear

Winston Spear is a unique comedian with a deep deadpan delivery who has been called the King of the Obscure. Although his slightly disturbed sensibility makes him a sure-fire hit, there is a certain charisma that endears Winston Spear to audiences when he performs. He is a regular cast member and staff writer on CTV and The Comedy Network's hit sketch show Comedy Inc., now in its fourth season, which also airs on Spike TV.

Winner of the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Stand-up Comic in 2003, Spear has been performing in comedy clubs and festivals throughout North America for more than a decade. In fact, comedy once took him to the United Arab Emirates to perform. He's appeared a number of times at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, the Vancouver International Comedy Festival, and was at this years Halifax Comedy Festival. Winston refers to his ability to incorporate physical comedy into his act as "comedic modern dance." For the past six years, Spear has been the resident host of the ALT.COMedy Lounge, a hip alternative showcase for comedians in Toronto.

This week TFW celebrates our fine city: Toronto

November 5th at 1:00 and the TFW squad is presenting our vision of Toronto: the blossoming and burgeoning cultural megatropolis of Canada. We love this city, and we'll tell you why.

New on site are 2 Classic Interviews: Last week's appearance of Kenny and Spenny on the Laugh Lab, and a Higher Learning special w/ Canadian TV fitness icon Hal Johnson. Look right for the mp3s.

This week's Higher Learning will feature the premiere of the Hal Johnson lost tapes; ie. unaired footage from our past interview. Hal tells us about his battle to get Body Break on the air, and how he wanted the show to be reflective of how multicultural Toronto is.

It's a don't miss show, if you live here, you've got no excuse. Sunday at 1:00 on CIUT 89.5 FM.

October 22 - Laugh Lab - Kenny VS Spenny

Kenny VS Spenny is about to begin a new season and this year the show is going big. Last year Kenny convinced Spenny he had AIDS to cause him to lose the Stand Up Comedy competition. How much bigger can it go?! The stars join us in studio to figure it out.
